The General Overseer of Omega Power Ministry (OPM), Apostle Chibuzor Chinyere, has put on hold his plan to arrange a marriage for his 21-year-old autistic adopted daughter, Chiemeka Chibuzor, following an overwhelming response from interested suitors.
The cleric announced the decision in a Facebook post on Thursday, stating that the proposed wedding had been suspended after receiving more than 1,000 applications.
He added that further directives would be communicated at a later time but did not give specific reasons for the sudden halt.
The development comes barely two days after Chinyere publicly declared his intention to find a suitable husband for his daughter,a move that quickly drew widespread attention and an influx of applications.
In his initial announcement, the pastor had set strict conditions for prospective suitors. He specified that only young men who are physically and mentally fit would be considered, explicitly excluding elderly individuals and persons living with disabilities.
To support the marriage, Chinyere had also outlined an extensive welfare package.
This included lifetime financial support, a house to be built in the names of the couple, and periodic unannounced visits by OPM officials to monitor the well-being and safety of his daughter.
He explained that the arrangement was designed to ensure that Chiemeka would be properly cared for, protected, and able to live a fulfilling life.
He also noted that although she exhibits autistic traits, she is able to speak and hear clearly.
The announcement had sparked conversations online, particularly given the scale of incentives attached to the marriage proposal.
The suspended plan follows closely on the heels of another marriage facilitated by the cleric. In March, he oversaw the wedding of Aboy Chibuzor, another autistic individual under his care, who married a single mother of three from Edo State.
While no timeline has been given for a possible resumption of the arrangement, the pastor’s latest decision appears to pause what had quickly become a widely discussed initiative.
