A non-governmental organisation, Peace Revival and Reconciliation Foundation of Nigeria, has distributed learning materials to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) children in Kaduna South local government area of Kaduna State.
Speaking during the exercise in Kaduna yesterday, the national president of the foundation, Yohanna Buru, said the initiative was aimed at restoring hope and encouraging continuous education among displaced children whose learning had been disrupted by banditry and kidnapping.
Buru explained that many of the children had been out of school for a prolonged period due to displacement, stressing that the provision of learning materials would ease their reintegration into academic activities.
He emphasised that education remains critical to rebuilding the future of displaced children, noting that sustained support would significantly improve their confidence and academic performance.
The foundation’s president also called on government at all levels, religious leaders and well-meaning individuals to intensify efforts toward supporting the education of IDP children, while urging other humanitarian organisations to replicate similar interventions.
Responding, the camp commandant, Sule Adams, described the intervention as timely and impactful, noting that it would ease the burden on parents grappling with harsh economic realities.
He disclosed that a “Back-to-Class” initiative is currently ongoing within the camp to encourage children who dropped out of school due to displacement to return to learning.
Adams further noted that although volunteer teachers continue to offer free lessons, many families are still struggling with economic hardship and rising living costs in their new environment.
He appealed to Nigerians to support the education of displaced children and urged government to intensify efforts at addressing insecurity to enable affected families return safely to their communities.
The items distributed included exercise books, pens, pencils, rulers, and other essential learning materials.
