A youth group under the aegis of Itsekiri Front has thrown its weight behind the senatorial ambition of Austin Orette, candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for Delta South, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued on Sunday in Warri by its spokesman, Temisanren Fregene, the group said its endorsement followed what it described as Orette’s policy direction and engagement with stakeholders across the district.
The group, however, stressed the need for the Delta South senatorial contest to be driven by “serious issues and credible alternatives,” rather than sentiments.
While expressing support for the NDC candidate, the Itsekiri Front said Orette’s campaign message around economic growth, job creation and equitable development resonated with many young people in the district.
It added that his proposals on resource distribution and representation have featured prominently in recent political conversations within Delta South.
The group also acknowledged what it described as growing political consultations across ethnic lines, noting reported support from some stakeholders among Isoko and Ijaw communities.
According to the statement, the endorsement reflects the group’s expectation that candidates vying for the senatorial seat should demonstrate capacity, clarity of ideas and commitment to addressing socio-economic challenges in the district.
The Itsekiri Front further called on other contenders in the race to present clear policy alternatives to enable voters make informed choices.
