Governor of Yobe State, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, has urged Nigerians to sustain prayers for the country, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and other stakeholders to ensure lasting peace, unity, and national stability.
Buni made the call during a meeting with Chief Imams of Jummu’at mosques across the state, attended by over 800 Islamic clerics, describing the engagement as the first phase of a broader consultation with both Muslim and Christian leaders.
In a statement issued by his director general, Press Affairs and Media to the Governor, Alhaji Mamman Mohammed, the Buni emphasised the need for collective prayers to overcome the nation’s internal and external challenges, stressing that peace remains the foundation for meaningful development.
“There can be no meaningful development without peace. That is why it is important for us to come together to support our leaders and safeguard our country,” Buni said.
He warned against any relapse into violence, recalling the devastating effects of insurgency in Yobe State and parts of the North-East.
“Many lives were lost, millions displaced, and properties destroyed. We cannot afford to return to such dark days. We must support our leaders to keep Nigeria united and peaceful,” he added.
The governor expressed appreciation for the relative peace currently enjoyed in the state and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting the federal government in sustaining national stability.
Buni also highlighted Nigeria’s strategic importance on the African continent, noting that many countries look up to it, and therefore underscoring the need for sustained peace and prosperity.
“We have no other country but Nigeria. It is our collective responsibility to pray for its peace and progress, and for God to guide President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and all leaders,” he said.
The special adviser to the Governor on Religious Affairs, Ustaz Babagana Malam Kyari has while speaking, said the meeting was convened to remind clerics of their responsibility in praying for the nation and its leadership.
He commended the existing harmony among religious leaders in the state, describing it as a model for peaceful coexistence.
Kyari further disclosed that the next phase of the engagement would involve pastors and church leaders across the state.
Responding on behalf of the participants, the clerics pledged to step down the message to their congregations and intensify prayers for Nigeria, its leaders, and sustained peace across the country.
