To boost economic diversification and unlock the state’s tourism potential, the federal and the Taraba State governments have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), for the establishment of a tourism village in the state.

The agreement is part of the broader efforts by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration to expand Nigeria’s revenue base through the culture, tourism and creative sectors.

A representative of the president at the event said the initiative was driven by the need to harness Nigeria’s comparative advantages outside the oil sector.

While describing Taraba as a state endowed with rich cultural heritage and natural attractions capable of positioning it as a major tourism hub in the country, the official said tourism remains a critical pillar for sustainable economic growth.

She commended Governor Agbu Kefas for aligning with the federal government’s development agenda to improve the lives of the people.

Governor Kefas said the project would not only stimulate economic activities but will serve as a non-kinetic strategy to address insecurity by promoting peace, unity and inclusive development.

Also, the state commissioner for Heritage and Ecotourism, Hon. Joseph Titus Nagombe, said a suitable site for the tourism village had already been identified, adding that the project would generate employment and enhance the state’s revenue profile.

The tourism village, when completed, is expected to position Taraba as a key destination in Nigeria’s tourism landscape.

Musawa signed the MoU on behalf of the federal government, while Nagombe signed for the Taraba State government.
