The Supreme Court will hear the appeals filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Action Democratic Congress (ADC)

Last week, the apex court granted an accelerated hearing in the protracted legal battle that has been destabilising the two main opposition parties.

The appeal was filed by the National Chairman of the ADC, former Senate President David Mark, challenging earlier court decisions on the dispute.

A five-member panel of the apex court, led by Justice Mohammed Garba, fixed Wednesday, 22 April, after granting an accelerated hearing in the appeal marked SC/CV/180/2026.

The apex court directed Mark’s counsel, Jibril Okutepa, to file and serve the appellant’s brief within a short timeframe, in line with the accelerated hearing granted.

In the PDP appeal filed by a faction led by former Minister of Special Duties, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, the court also fixed Wednesday for the hearing.

The faction is contesting the 9 March judgment of the Court of Appeal, which upheld earlier rulings barring the party from proceeding with its controversial national convention outcomes.

A five-member panel of the apex court, headed by Mohammed Garba, granted an application for accelerated hearing on Tuesday, 14 April.

The presiding judge ordered a shortened timeline for filings, directing respondents to submit their briefs within 5 days and appellants to respond within 2 days.
