In a heartbreaking turn of events just months before the summer showcase, Bayern Munich and Germany international Serge Gnabry has officially confirmed that he will miss the 2026 FIFA World Cup due to a serious thigh injury.

The 30-year-old forward, who has been a cornerstone of Julian Nagelsmann’s national team setup, broke the news to fans via social media on Wednesday, bringing an end to weeks of speculation surrounding his fitness.

The injury an adductor problem sustained during training was first flagged by Bayern Munich over the weekend.

The Bundesliga champions announced that Gnabry would be sidelined for “an extended period,” prompting immediate concern among German supporters that their star attacker would not recover in time for the tournament, which is set to be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Those fears have now been confirmed. Gnabry revealed that his season is over, and with it, his hopes of representing his country on football’s biggest stage.

“The last few days have been tough to process,” Gnabry wrote in an emotional statement.

“A Bayern season which still holds much to play for after securing another Bundesliga title on the weekend. As for the World Cup dream with Germany that’s sadly over for me.”

He added: “Like the rest of the country, I’ll be supporting the boys from home. Now it’s time to focus on recovery and getting back for pre-season.”

The former Arsenal man has been a vital figure for Die Mannschaft since making his debut, amassing 59 caps and scoring 26 goals. His pace, versatility, and big-game experience will be sorely missed as Germany looks to mount a serious challenge for the title.

For now, Gnabry’s focus shifts to rehabilitation, while Nagelsmann must recalibrate his attacking plans ahead of the summer’s showpiece event.
