Cross River State Epidemiologist, Dr Inyang Ekpenyong, has given assurances regarding the state’s response to a confirmed case of COVID-19 involving a Chinese national.

Ekpenyong stated that every individual who had contact with the patient is now under “strict surveillance” by health authorities.

The state epidemiologist stated this on Wednesday in Calabar during a late-night telephone conversation with LEADERSHIP.

She explained that the authority of the Cross River state Ministry of Health has put measures in place to halt any potential spread of the virus.

In her words, Ekpeyong said, “We’ve been ordered to stay home for regular monitoring,” referring to the directive issued to all identified contacts.

She stressed that the situation remains under control for now.

“But as we speak, there is no other reported case of Covid -19 except the case of the Chinese National, which is being put under control.
