The Nigerian Navy has said it team has successfully contained a major fire outbreak at the Nigerian Correctional Service Quarters, Kirikiri, Apapa, Lagos State, preventing further destruction and safeguarding lives.

A statement by the Naval Spokesman Navy Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, said the incident occurred at about 11:00 p.m. on 22 April 2026, when a fire broke out in a residential building within the quarters.

According to him, preliminary reports revealed that the fire may have started following the explosion of a gas cylinder, leading the fire to spread rapidly to an adjacent building.

However, personnel from Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) WEY, in collaboration with the Naval Ordnance Depot (NOD), swiftly deployed two fire trucks to the scene.

“Through a coordinated rapid firefighting effort, the naval team contained the blaze and prevented it from spreading further before the arrival of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service.
“Although two buildings in the vicinity got burnt and properties were lost, no casualties were recorded as of the time of this report,” he said
