Senator Abdul Ningi, who represents Bauchi Central Senatorial District, has expressed confidence that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will retain control of Bauchi State in the 2027 general elections.

Speaking during an appearance on Politics Today on Channels Television on Thursday, Ningi maintained that the PDP’s deep-rooted grassroots presence across the state remains intact, regardless of recent political developments involving Governor Bala Mohammed.

According to him, the party’s long-standing dominance in Bauchi gives it a clear advantage. He noted that the PDP has maintained a strong structure at the ward and village levels for over two decades, making it the party to beat in the state.

His comments come amid growing uncertainty over Governor Mohammed’s political direction after he recently described himself as a “freelance politician,” suggesting a possible shift away from firm party allegiance. The governor made the remark after hosting Peter Obi and other political stakeholders, hinting at ongoing cross-party discussions and potential realignments ahead of 2027.

Mohammed also indicated that no single party may dominate the upcoming elections, pointing to evolving alliances and the possible role of the judiciary in shaping outcomes.

Despite this, Ningi dismissed concerns that the governor’s position could weaken the PDP’s chances. He insisted that the party remains capable of winning the state with or without Mohammed’s backing.

On the issue of succession, the senator emphasized party unity and discipline, stating that members would support whoever emerges as the PDP’s gubernatorial candidate. He stressed that the party does not tolerate anti-party activities and expects loyalty from its members.

Ningi also downplayed the strength of opposition figures, including Minister of Foreign Affairs Yusuf Tuggar, describing them as mere political competitors rather than serious threats.

He further urged politicians to avoid desperation as the elections approach, noting that the survival and stability of the party beyond 2027 should be the primary focus, rather than individual ambitions.

Meanwhile, Governor Mohammed’s recent engagements with politicians across party lines, including members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), have fueled speculation about shifting alliances, setting the stage for a potentially dynamic and unpredictable political contest in Bauchi State.
