“The child was reportedly kidnapped while returning from school, with the abductors demanding N40 million ransom and threatening to kill him if payment was not made”.

Muhammad said operatives of the Anchau Division immediately launched a rescue operation, which led to the safe recovery of the victim in Maigana, Soba Local Government Area.

In another operation, he said police recovered an AK-47 rifle with ammunition along the Kaduna-Abuja expressway near the tollgate following a gun encounter with suspected bandits.

Similarly, the Commissioner disclosed that at Kawo Flyover, operatives recovered a 37 38mm anti-riot gun, two short-range shells and one long-range shell, allegedly abandoned by a fleeing suspect who ran into a cemetery upon sighting police officers.

In a separate arrest, a 45-year-old suspect was apprehended in Kurmin Zaki in possession of a locally fabricated AK-47 rifle.

On vehicle-related crimes, Muhammad confirmed the arrest of three suspected members of a syndicate involved in car theft across Kaduna, Kano and Katsina States.

He added that detectives also arrested another suspect found with a stolen Toyota Corolla and a Hyundai vehicle. At the same time, a further Toyota Corolla was recovered in Kaduna State and traced to Katsina State. One suspect was arrested in connection with the case.

Meanwhile, in Zaria, he said operatives arrested a suspect found with 44 wraps of suspected cannabis concealed in a sack during a surveillance operation.

Muhammad said the suspect is under investigation to determine possible links to a wider drug trafficking network operating within and outside the StState.
