Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has launched Governor Babagana Zulum’s N200 million empowerment programme for 2,000 vulnerable women in 27 local government areas of Borno State.
Each beneficiary will receive a grant of N100,000 and a sewing machine to improve her livelihood.
During the launch at the Government House on Monday in Maiduguri, Senator Oluremi Tinubu commended Governor Zulum for the empowerment programme, which, according to her, speaks volumes about his commitment to the welfare of the people of Borno.
“I would like to seize this opportunity to specially commend the governor of Borno State, His Excellency, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum CON, for his remarkable gesture of empowering 2,000 women, many of whom are potential beneficiaries of the National Community Food Bank Project we are launching today,” Senator Tinubu said.
The breakdown shows that 400 vulnerable women were selected from Maiduguri metropolis, 200 from Jere local government, 100 from Biu local government, and the remaining 24 LGAs received 50 beneficiaries each.
Similarly, Senator Oluremi Tinubu also presented keys of brand-new utility vehicles to eight outstanding teachers, head teachers, principals, TVET coordinators, and staff of the Borno State Ministry of Education for their commitment to duty, courtesy of Governor Babagana Zulum.
In a related development, the governor presented a house to a ministry watchman, Baba Modu Fandi, in recognition of his dedication to duty, while Senator Tinubu further rewarded him with an additional sum of two million naira.
