Ikeja Electric has reaffirmed its commitment to community health and well-being with targeted Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) interventions in Abule–Egba and Odogunyan communities to mark the 2026 World Malaria Day, themed “Driven to end malaria: Now we can. Now we must.”

The initiative focused on raising awareness and improving access to basic health services through community sensitisation and on-the-spot medical support.

The residents were educated on the causes, symptoms, prevention and early treatment of malaria. They were given practical guidance on using insecticide-treated mosquito nets, maintaining proper environmental sanitation, and the importance of seeking prompt medical care.

As part of the outreach, participants underwent malaria testing and received appropriate antimalarial medication, treated mosquito nets and information materials on sustained prevention efforts within their communities.

Speaking on the initiative, the company’s spokesperson, Kingsley Okotie, said, “At Ikeja Electric, we recognise that our responsibility goes beyond providing electricity. We are committed to supporting our customers’ well-being through initiatives that promote healthier communities. This World Malaria Day outreach reflects our effort to equip residents with the knowledge and resources needed to prevent and manage malaria effectively.

“We believe that sustained awareness and access to the preventive tools can significantly reduce the impact of malaria in our communities, and we will continue to collaborate with stakeholders to drive positive health outcomes.”

The company also urged customers to remain safety-conscious during the rainy season, noting that this period increases the risk of hazards, including exposed electrical wires, flooded installations, and electric shock incidents.

Customers were advised to avoid contact with electrical infrastructure during rainfall, to avoid handling or approaching damaged or fallen wires, and to ensure that electrical installations on their premises are properly secured and protected from water exposure.

Reiterating the company’s commitment to community engagement, safety advocacy, and sustainable impact, Okotie noted that these priorities remain central to Ikeja Electric’s broader goal of building safer, healthier, and more resilient communities.

“Ikeja Electric remains dedicated to delivering value to its customers through reliable power supply, continuous stakeholder engagement, and meaningful CSR interventions that improve quality of life,” he said.
