A lecturer with the Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University , IBBU, Lapai, Professor Olufemi Olubunmi Egbewande, has said that the only way the nation can utilise its full agricultural potential was through adequate security , funding researches and embracing innovations.

The Professor of Monogastric Animal Production in the Department of Agriculture, IBBU stated this while delivering the institution’s 28th inaugural lecture in Lapai.

He said government must improve research funding, ensure adequate security and institutional support for agricultural innovation to attain the level of food sufficiency.

The don further called for reforms in government policies and a collaborative funding model by government, industries and wealthy individuals to ensure sustained innovation in especially Nigeria’s poultry sector.

He posited that , if the poultry sector was reformed , it would not only improve productivity of farmers but guarantee opportunities for young professionals in Agriculture.
