Plateau People Will Decide 2027 Governor, Not Party, Godfathers – Aspirant

A former director of protocols and permanent secretary, Plateau State Government House Administration, Sunday Garba Biggs, has dumped the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Biggs has also declared to run for the governorship position of the state in 2027.

The PDP chieftain, who contested for the APC governorship ticket in 2023, is a close ally of the former governor and senator representing Plateau South Senatorial Zone, Barr. Simon Lalong,

Biggs formally wrote his letter of resignation to the APC chairman of Mangu Ward II in Mangu local government area where he hails from, and on April 29, declared his intentions to contest for the governorship position at the PDP office in Mangu, where party supporters, gathered to receive him.

Mangu is also the hometown of the incumbent governor, Caleb Mutfwang of the APC who will also run for re-election in 2027.

In his declaration speech, Biggs said he is ready to run against anyone irrespective of affinity, position or party.

He said that anyone who understands the trajectory of Plateau politics will know that “godfatherism” and positions don’t guarantee governorship election victory, stressing that it is the Plateau electorate who decide who to vote for on the basis of Plateau philosophy.

He assured the people that the PDP would bounce back from its challenges and retake power in the state in 2027, adding that PDP is the party that aligns with Plateau political ideology, and that any prominent politician in the state today emanated from PDP.

“Today, I formally declare my aspiration to contest for the office of the governor of Plateau State under the platform of the PDP.

“This decision is not driven by personal ambition alone, but by a sincere desire to serve, to restore hope and to build a future that reflects the true potential of our dear state.

“Having recently joined this great party, I am inspired by its enduring commitment to democracy, inclusiveness and people-centered governance. Plateau State is blessed beyond measure. We are endowed with rich natural resources, fertile lands, vibrant cultures and above all, a resilient and hardworking people.

“Yet, we must speak honestly: our state has not fully realised its potential. Many of our people continue to face economic hardship, insecurity, unemployment and inadequate infrastructure. This is not the Plateau of our dreams.

“We cannot afford to remain where we are. The time has come for a new direction—one that prioritises the welfare of our people, strengthens our institutions and unlocks opportunities for all,” he said.
