Kebbi State Chapter of the Customs Officers Wives Association (COWA) has planted about 100 trees to tackle the menace of desertification in the state.

It also donated 12 dustbin containers for proper waste disposal and recycling of plastic waste in Nigeria Customs Service (NCS)offices and homes in the state.

During the programme held yesterday at the Customs Headquarters in Birnin Kebbi, COWA chairperson, Mrs Farida Mahmoud Matawalle said “We are not just planting trees, we are planting hope, sustainability, and a healthier future for our environment and our nation. “

According to her, across Nigeria, COWA at the national level is undertaking a powerful initiative to plant 1,000 trees which had been performed by the COWA president, Mrs Kikelomo Basheer Adeniyi.

“In line with COWA’s green initiative and our ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability, we are donating 12 large dusbins containers for proper waste disposal and recycling, especially for plastic waste in all parts of the Customs’ environments in Kebbi State, “ Matawalle said.

“I must commended the efforts of my husband, the Customs Comptroller in Kebbi, Mahmoud Matawalle for his immense support and cooperation in making this excercise a success,” she added.
