A non-governmental organisation (NGO), Mumsbooth Empowerment Initiative, has trained 320 young women in Abuja and Nasarawa State under its Project START Youth Innovation and Civic Leadership Programme, aimed at strengthening leadership, entrepreneurship and civic engagement skills.

The initiative, supported by the Nigeria Youth Futures Fund, targets 500 beneficiaries, with a focus on inclusion of women with disabilities through structured training, mentorship, and collaboration.

The organisation said the milestone was achieved during physical training sessions held in April 2026 across Abuja and Nasarawa State.

Speaking to LEADERSHIP, the founder of Mumsbooth, Mrs Martha Tawiyah, said the participants were equipped with skills in leadership development, innovation, civic awareness, confidence building, entrepreneurship and community engagement.

She noted that the massive turnout and engagement reflected growing demand for practical empowerment opportunities among young women at the grassroots level.

“A key outcome of the programme is the formation of 10 women-led groups by participants to drive civic engagement, business initiatives, peer support and community development efforts.

“These groups are expected to serve as sustainability structures that will outlive the programme,” she stated.

Tawiyah commended the NYFF for supporting the initiatives and acknowledged the role of facilitators, volunteers and community partners in the programme’s implementation.

She reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to reaching the 500-woman target and sustaining impact through continued leadership and innovation training.
