Former Kano State governor and leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, is set to defect from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) on Monday.

The spokesperson of the movement, Habibu Sale Mohammed, disclosed the development in an interview with our correspondent on Saturday, stating that the decision was reached after a crucial meeting convened by Kwankwaso with caucus leaders on Friday.

“Following the Supreme Court judgement, Jagora (Kwankwaso) called for a meeting with all caucus members on Friday evening, and after thorough consultations and deliberations, a decision was reached to move to the NDC,” Mohammed claimed.

“With the time constraint, we only have a few days to find a destination, and both the NDC and the People’s Redemption Party (PRP) reached out to our leader to consider joining their party. The collective stance was to join the NDC, which is a new party with minimal possibility of leadership crisis,” he added.

Mohammed also hinted at the possibility of Kwankwaso emerging on the presidential ticket of the NDC platform fornthr 2027 presidential election.

“The NDC itself has publicly solicited Kwankwaso and Obi to join the party, so obviously, getting the presidential ticket won’t be an issue. However, I must emphasise that the priority of our leader is to ensure there is a strong opposition that can rival the ruling party,” he stated.
