Nigeria will be among 39 countries competing at the World Athletics Relays in Gaborone, Botswana, with qualification spots for major global championships at stake.

The two-day event, scheduled for 2–3 May 2026, will feature six relay disciplines: the men’s and women’s 4x100m and 4x400m races, alongside the mixed 4x100m and 4x400m events.

A 27-member Nigerian contingent will participate across all categories, underlining the country’s ambition to secure podium finishes and qualification berths for the 2027 World Championships and the 2026 World Ultimate Championships.

The competition will begin on Saturday with the opening rounds, starting with the mixed 4x100m relays. The second day will see the conclusion of qualification rounds and the finals, as teams battle for medals and coveted places at future global events.

Officials say the stakes are particularly high, as performances in Gaborone will determine qualification pathways for upcoming international championships, adding further intensity to the races.
