Newly-turbaned Sarkin Yakin Kano, Ambassador Ahmed Umar, said his elevation is not just a ceremonial rise in the traditional hierarchy, but a recognition earned through years of dedication and service.

Umar, who was the Jarman Kano, was turbaned as the Chief Warrior of Kano by the Emir of Kano, Khalifa Muhammad Sanusi II at a ceremony held at the Emir’s Palace, Kofar Kudu. The event also witnessed the elevation of five other traditional title holders, drawing dignitaries, family members and well-wishers from across the emirate.

Speaking after the ceremony, the district head of Mariri described his promotion as both humbling and motivating. He noted that advancement in any sphere of life reflects commitment and the ability to meet expectations.

“Anytime you are promoted or elevated, it is a success. It makes you happy. For me, this is a reward for hard work and dedication to duty,” he said.

Reflecting on his career in the civil service as a Foreign Service Officer, Umar said his guiding principle has always been to serve diligently in line with established rules and expectations. According to him, consistent performance and loyalty to leadership naturally attract recognition.

“As Chief Warrior, I will continue to dedicate myself to my responsibilities. Success comes from doing one’s duty to the satisfaction of those in authority and for the overall good of the emirate,” he added.

He also emphasised the importance of trust between leaders and the people, describing it as the foundation for effective governance. He urged residents to remain patient, focused and supportive of constituted authority, noting that mutual understanding strengthens leadership outcomes.

Earlier, Emir Sanusi II said the appointments were strictly based on merit and the appointees’ contributions to humanity. He charged them to uphold the ethics of the traditional institution and justify the confidence reposed in them.
