In a stern crackdown on misconduct during a heated 2026 league clash, the Nigeria Nationwide League One (NLO) Secretariat has imposed indefinite suspensions on multiple officials, players, and even the entire supporters’ club of Abia-based Ahudiyanem FC.
The punishments stem from what the league described as “acts of misconduct and unsportsmanlike behavior” during the team’s recent fixture against Right 2 Win FC Abia.
According to a statement released by the NLO, the trouble erupted during the ongoing 2026 season match between the two Abia sides. A disturbing report submitted by match officials and league observers painted a picture of blatant indiscipline, including alleged threats, verbal assaults, and unruly conduct both on and off the pitch.
The league body emphasised that the disciplinary measures were taken under Article 4:07 of its binding regulations. However, the suspensions remain indefinite, meaning the affected individuals and group are barred from all NLO-related activities until the league’s Disciplinary Committee concludes its full investigation and issues a final ruling.
In a rare and sweeping move, the NLO also suspended the club’s entire supporters’ club, banning them from participating in any league activities indefinitely. This effectively means no fan associated with Ahudiyanem FC can attend or engage with NLO matches for the foreseeable future.
Beyond the suspensions, the NLO has ordered the Chairman of Ahudiyanem FC to submit a written undertaking guaranteeing the safety and security of all match officials in future fixtures.
This directive followed credible reports that certain players and club officials had allegedly made direct threats against referees and league representatives.
The club was also hit with a financial penalty of N500,000 (five hundred thousand naira). The fine must be paid in full before Ahudiyanem FC’s next scheduled fixture in the 2026 campaign. Failure to do so could lead to further sanctions, including possible expulsion from the league.
Notably, the NLO clarified that despite the severity of the infractions, no points were awarded to Right 2 Win FC. The reason, according to the league’s statement, is that the match officials did not officially call off the game during the incident.
Without an official abandonment or forfeiture ruling, the league could not justify redistributing points. Instead, the focus remains on punishing the offending club’s personnel and supporters while preserving the integrity of the match result as it stood.
As things stand, Ahudiyanem FC must navigate the rest of the 2026 season without key players, their team manager, assistant coach, and any fan support.
The NLO Disciplinary Committee is expected to sit in the coming weeks to determine whether these indefinite bans become permanent or whether additional penalties such as relegation or stadium bans will be applied.
