The Oodua Integrity Group has urged the inspector-general of police (IGP), Tunji Disu, to halt the planned transfer of an arson case in Urum, Awka North local government area of Anambra State to the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

The group said the case, currently being handled by the Anambra State Police Command’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID), should be concluded at the state level.

On behalf of the group, its head of Investigation, Adeniyi Fatai, said the proposed transfer of the case to the Force Homicide Section could affect the ongoing investigation by the state command.

Fatai said that at a time when discussions around state policing were ongoing, such a move may not support efforts to strengthen the role of state commands.

“It will be detrimental if the investigative powers of the Anambra State CID are subdued,” he said.

He noted that one Emeka Ebenezer Mokwogwu had been charged with criminal conspiracy and arson in connection with an incident that occurred between March 24 and 25, 2025, in Urum, where a house was burnt.

He added that a letter from the Force Headquarters’ Homicide Section, signed by a Commissioner of Police, requested the transfer of the case file from the Anambra State Police Command to Abuja.

The group appealed to the Inspector-General of Police to intervene and allow the case to be concluded in Anambra State.

Fatai also said that the complainants have expressed confidence in the state CID’s capacity to handle the matter.
