Eight kidnapers belonging to the same family have been arrested by personnel of the Nasarawa State Police Command.
One of the family members, identified as Muhammed Alfa, however, lost his life during the operation.
Addressing journalists on the development, the Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Shatima Jauro, said all the suspects are from Rugan Alhaji Alfa, Rukubi village of Doma local government area of the state.
The CP gave the names of the suspects to include Adamu Alfa, 35; Muhammed Alfa, 25; Shuaibu Alfa, 33, and Usman Alfa, 25.
Others, according to him, were Ali Alfa, 30; Isa Alfa, 15; Adamu Alfa, 25, and Ja’afaru Alfa, 38, respectively.
Giving the details of the operation, the CP explained; “On the 7th of May, 2026, at about 0100hrs, information was received from the officer in charge of Rukubi outpost through the Divisional Police Officer, Ekye Division, that on the 6th of May, 2026, at about 2230hrs, some armed hoodlums invaded Rukubi community in Doma local government area, shooting sporadically and creating fear among residents.
“During the attack, the criminals stormed the residences of one Habib Usman and one Peter Ajidiku and abducted two persons identified as Ayele Jonathan and Rose Samuel to an unknown destination.
“Upon receipt of the distress report, police patrol teams were immediately mobilized to the area in collaboration with personnel of the Nigerian Military, Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), National Forest Security Service (NFSS), and vigilant youths of the community.”
He said during the operation, two AK-47 rifles and four Bajaj motorcycles were recovered from the suspects, while two expended AK-47 ammunition shells were recovered from the victims’ residence as exhibits connected to the incident.
He noted that one of the suspects, identified as Muhammed Alfa, sustained fatal injuries during the encounter and later died while receiving treatment.
The CP assured that the command remained resolute in its determination to rid the State of criminal elements and ensure that all those involved in acts of kidnapping and violence were brought to justice.
He urged members of the public to continue supporting the Police and other security agencies with timely and credible information, as community participation remained vital in the fight against crime and criminality.
