TCN Repels Armed Robbery Attempt at Ogbomosho Substation

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) said he successfully repelled an armed robbery attempt at its Ogbomosho Transmission Substation in the early hours of May 10, 2026, with no injuries reported among personnel.

TCN’s general manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, confirmed in a statement on Tuesday, that preliminary reports indicated a group of armed men had gained unauthorised access to the substation premises by scaling the perimeter fence near the gate.

“This occurred between late Saturday night and early Sunday morning,” Mbah stated.

The intruders proceeded directly to the gate house, Mbah added, in what appeared to be an effort to attack and immobilise the vigilante security personnel on duty.

However, the security team responded decisively by firing warning shots, which forced the attackers to retreat and flee through the same route they had used for entry.

During their hasty escape, the suspects abandoned some tools and personal items near the fence wall, according to the statement. Mbah said that an early morning inspection revealed additional implements suspected to have been intended for the attack, along with traces of blood and footprints trailing to the point of escape.

“A full search conducted after daylight led to the recovery of a bag containing further tools believed to belong to the intruders,” Mbah noted.

TCN has reported the incident to relevant authorities and is working closely with security agencies to investigate the matter thoroughly and implement measures to prevent any recurrence, Mbah emphasised.

The company has also directed a formal report of the incident to the Oba’s Palace in Ogbomosho, scheduled for delivery on May 11, 2026.

Mbah reaffirmed that as the federal government agency responsible for operating Nigeria’s 20,000 kilometers of transmission lines and over 500 substations nationwide, TCN remained committed to safeguarding its critical infrastructure and ensuring the safety of its staff.
“TCN is dedicated to protecting its installations and maintaining the reliability of power transmission across the country,” she added.

The Ogbomosho substation plays a key role in evacuating bulk electricity from generation companies to distribution networks in southwestern Nigeria, underscoring the importance of such security measures amid ongoing challenges in the power sector.
