The Okpekpe International 10km Road Race has announced the appointment of Dr Adebukola Bojuwoye as the head of its medical unit for the 11th edition, scheduled for Saturday, 30th May, in Okpekpe, Edo State.
Dr Bojuwoye, a highly experienced medical professional with a strong background in Nigerian road running events, will oversee emergency medical response, coordinate first aid stations, and ensure the safety of athletes and spectators. His role is considered crucial for the well-being of all participants.
In addition to the new medical director, organisers have revealed five corporate partners for the 2026 race: Development Bank of Nigeria (DBN), Petralon Energy, Razzl Drink, Dan Oil, and Carloha Motors. These sponsorships highlight the event’s increasing appeal across various sectors of the Nigerian economy.
Organised by Pamodzi Sports Marketing Company, the Okpekpe race has grown significantly since becoming Nigeria’s first World Athletics label road race in 2015. It has since achieved Gold Label Race status, attracting elite international athletes and establishing itself as a premier African road-running competition.
Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebolo, reiterated the state’s commitment to supporting the race, recognising its importance in promoting tourism, community pride, and international recognition. Race Director Zack Amodu emphasised that the new partnerships underscore the event’s broader impact.
“We are delighted to welcome DBN, Petralon, Razzl, and Carloha Motors as partners,” said Amodu. “Their support, alongside Edo State’s backing, strengthens the race and reinforces its role in promoting excellence, youth empowerment, and community development.”
Beyond its sporting significance, the Okpekpe International 10km Road Race is a catalyst for social, health, and economic benefits, promoting fitness, fostering social cohesion, and generating economic activity. The 11th edition is anticipated to attract elite athletes and international attention, further solidifying Nigeria’s position on the global athletics calendar.
