Nigerian actress Bolaji Ogunmola has revealed the challenges she faced in the movie industry, stating that her appearance played a significant role in the kinds of roles she was offered in the early stages of her career.

In a recent interview, she said her roles were limited to “side chick” characters because of her dark-skinned complexion and curvy physique.

According to Ogunmola, this stereotype affected her opportunities as an actress. It took her time and persistence to prove and interpret a wider range of roles.

Industry observers say more actors around the world are speaking openly about how appearance, skin tone and body shape can influence casting decisions in film and television.

Analysts say Bolaji Ogunmola’s comments reflect wider discussions about representation and inclusiveness as Nollywood continues to grow.
