Removing APC, Tinubu Government in 2027 Possible – PRP

The National Chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Dr Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has said it is possible to remove the President Bola Tinubu-led All Progressives Congress (APC) government in 2027.

Baba-Ahmed, who was a guest on Channels Television’s programme Sunday Politics, said the administration had made its defeat easy because of the unbearable conditions it had subjected Nigerians to.

The former presidential adviser also said his party is ready for the 2027 polls but would work with other parties to ensure the removal of the APC and Tinubu at the polls.

According to him, former Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate Peter Obi and the leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Kwankwaso, could not join the PRP because of their unilateral demand for the party’s presidential ticket, but they remain good allies.

He said the party’s presidential candidate can only be determined through congresses or a national convention, and not otherwise.

Baba-Ahmed declared that neither he nor the PRP would work for Tinubu in 2027, saying that if he, as national chairman, had intended to do so, he would not have resigned from the administration as presidential adviser.

He, however, said the party places more emphasis on State Houses of Assembly, the National Assembly, and governorship positions in the 2027 general election.

“If we have half of the Houses of Assembly made up of PRP members, by 2031 we believe that the PRP will win every election we contest. So, we are placing less emphasis on the presidential election than on the State Assembly, House of Representatives, Senate, and governorship elections,” he said.

Asked whether his major agenda as PRP national chairman is to ensure that Tinubu and the APC are voted out, Baba-Ahmed said: “It’s one of our major agendas. I’m not saying that only the PRP can remove Tinubu from power, but we have a major contribution to make. We are looking for every legitimate opportunity to do so.

“He has messed up this country. He has made life more miserable and the country more insecure. Nigerians are desperately unhappy. We know this for a fact. He knows it too, unless they are not telling him the truth. They are not telling him the true state of the country.

“Half the work has already been done. The rest of the work has to be done by us. We have to find a way to pool our resources and energies together and decide whether we can shun selfishness and reduce the quarrels over who gets what.

“The key issue is to have a change of government in 2027. If it is not possible, then maybe in 2031. Shall I tell you the truth? I genuinely believe that it is possible to defeat the APC. I also believe that the APC has substantially damaged itself. Look at what has happened during its primaries.”

Baba-Ahmed also declared that the PRP is currently the only ideologically driven party in the country, with a vision to take Nigeria out of the challenges of hardship, insecurity, among others.

“We are the only party, as we speak now in 2026, identified with five principles. Every PRP member, and everybody who knows us, understands that we are committed to restoring dignity, competence, integrity, and efficiency to leadership.

“And we say this to everybody: if you elect a PRP government, you are making a choice to have leadership that is responsible, competent, and compassionate. That is the first thing. Secondly, we are committed to securing Nigeria. Nigeria will become secure within one year under a PRP government,” he stated.
