The Chief Whip of the House of Representatives, Hon. Usman Bello Kumo, has emerged unopposed as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Akko Federal Constituency of Gombe State ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Kumo was declared winner of the party’s primary election on Saturday after polling a total of 238 delegates’ votes, in a process that drew applause and celebrations from supporters and party loyalists at the venue.

The ranking lawmaker secured the ticket for a return to the House of Representatives after stepping down from the 2027 governorship race in Gombe State and endorsing the APC consensus candidate, Dr. Jamilu Isiyaku Gwamna.

His withdrawal from the governorship contest followed consultations with party leaders and stakeholders, which he said was aimed at strengthening unity within the APC ahead of the elections.

Party officials described the exercise as peaceful and transparent, noting that Kumo’s unopposed emergence reflected the confidence of delegates and stakeholders in his leadership.

In his post-victory remarks, Kumo expressed appreciation to party members, delegates, and supporters for the renewed mandate, pledging to continue delivering effective representation and constituency projects.

He also called for unity within the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections, urging members to work collectively for the party’s success in Gombe State and across the country.
