The Allied People’s Movement (APM) has condemned the abduction of schoolchildren and a principal, as well as the killing of an assistant headteacher and a commercial motorcycle rider during an attack on schools in Oyo State.
In a statement issued over the weekend in Abuja, the party described the incident as “outrageous, barbaric and heartless,” calling on security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue the victims and restore security in the state.
In the statement signed by APM national chairman, Dr Yusuf Mamman Dantalle, he said the attack occurred on Friday, May 15, 2026, at Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota, LA School and Community Grammar School, Ahoro-Esinele in Oriire local government area of Oyo State.
The party said the terrorists struck while the pupils were observing their morning devotion, describing the incident as “cruelty of the worst order.”
APM expressed sympathy with the abducted children, their families, teachers and the people of Oyo State, while also mourning the assistant headteacher and the bike rider killed during the attack.
“Our hearts also go out to the family of the assistant headteacher who was brutally killed, as well as the bike rider who was mowed down in this senseless attack on innocent children whose only offence is to acquire education for the benefit of humanity,” the statement said.
The party stressed that every life matters and should be protected, urging security agencies to ensure the safe return of the abducted victims and strengthen security across the state, particularly during the electoral season.
APM also commended Oyo State governor, Mr Seyi Makinde, for what it described as his “visionary, purposeful and transformative leadership” in the state.
The party stated that the governor should not be discouraged by the attack but instead remain committed to delivering democratic dividends to the people of Oyo State.
“APM stands with the good people of Oyo State in the quest for a strong, united, inclusive and prosperous democratic nation,” the statement added.
