Nigerian rapper Emeka Akumefule, widely known as Blaqbonez, has spoken candidly about his disillusionment with Nigeria’s leadership and national direction.
In a recent appearance on the ‘Off The Record’ podcast, the rapper admitted he has never voted in any election, describing himself as someone who has mentally and emotionally disengaged from the country.
“I kind of feel like I clocked out of Nigeria,” he said. “Too many things that I hoped would have happened haven’t happened.”
Blaqbonez argued that the country’s problems run deeper than any single political party, suggesting that Nigerian leaders are merely a reflection of the population at large.
He expressed little faith in the existing political structure, comparing the nation’s governance to a tree with rotten roots — where no branch, regardless of party affiliation, can truly thrive.
He noted that only a dramatic, fundamental shift would restore his belief in Nigeria’s future, stating that something drastic would be needed before he could trust the country’s vision again.
