Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has congratulated Arsenal Football Club on winning the English Premier League title, describing the feat as a reflection of resilience, discipline and long-term strategic planning.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku praised the club’s players, coaching staff and millions of supporters across Nigeria and around the world for what he called a historic triumph.

The former vice president said Arsenal’s success was built on years of rebuilding, careful planning and the courage to remain focused despite challenges, adding that the same principles had shaped his approach to public service and economic reform.

“Arsenal’s victory did not happen overnight. It is the product of years of rebuilding, disciplined planning, bold decision-making, and the courage to stay the course even when success seemed distant,” he said.

Atiku noted that his economic philosophy has consistently focused on private sector-led growth, job creation and institutional reforms aimed at unlocking productivity and prosperity in Nigeria.

According to him, just as Arsenal invested in youth development and maintained a clear footballing philosophy, Nigeria must commit to investing in its people and building strong institutions capable of sustaining growth and innovation.

“My vision has always been to build an economy that works for all — driven by enterprise, strengthened by institutional reforms, and powered by the energy of our youth,” he stated.

The former presidential candidate also commended Nigerian Arsenal supporters for standing by the club through difficult periods, describing their loyalty as a symbol of the resilience and hopeful spirit of Nigerians.

Drawing parallels between football and politics, Atiku said meaningful national transformation requires patience, consistency and determination.

He urged Nigerians to remain optimistic about the future of the country, expressing confidence that the 2027 general election could usher in a more prosperous and inclusive era with the right leadership.

“Arsenal’s triumph is a powerful reminder that persistence, discipline, and an unwavering belief in one’s mission ultimately produce results,” he said.

Atiku further praised Arsenal’s leadership for building a cohesive team rooted in youth development, tactical intelligence and unity of purpose, which he said are critical ingredients for national development.

Looking ahead, he encouraged the club to extend its dominance to the European stage by targeting the UEFA Champions League title.

“Having conquered England, I encourage Arsenal to set their sights firmly on the UEFA Champions League. The spirit, quality, and determination that delivered the Premier League title can certainly secure a historic double,” he added.

He concluded by wishing Arsenal continued success in Europe and expressing hope that the club’s achievement would inspire renewed optimism, unity and purpose among Nigerians both at home and abroad.
