The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) on Friday confirmed that Xejet has paid the N2 million fine imposed on the airline over consumer protection-related infractions earlier this month.

The disclosure was made by the NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mr. Michael Achimugu, through his official X handle.

According to Achimugu, “the operator, XEJET, has paid the sanction fee to the NCAA along with an official apology for the issues that led to a sanction, and a commitment to continue to improve the quality of its service to passengers.”

The airline was sanctioned by the regulatory authority following breaches of consumer protection regulations contained in the NCAA framework.

Reacting to the development, several Nigerians commended the NCAA for strengthening passenger rights protection and enforcing compliance among domestic operators.

However, some stakeholders stressed that payment of the sanction fee does not exempt the airline from meeting its obligations to affected passengers, particularly in relation to refunds and compensation as provided under Part 19 of the NCAA regulations.

Achimugu assured that the authority would ensure full compliance with all consumer protection provisions.

“The NCAA continues to strike a healthy balance in protecting the rights of all industry stakeholders,” he stated.
