Former member of the House of Representatives, Dr. Farah Dagogo, has emerged as the governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Rivers State after securing a landslide victory in the party’s direct primaries conducted across the state’s 319 wards in 23 local government areas.

The primary election was held under the leadership of former Senate President David Mark-led ADC structure.
Dagogo polled 64,700 votes to defeat his closest rival, Dr. Sokonte Davies, who scored 9,050 votes.

Chairman of the ADC Rivers State Governorship Primary Electoral Committee, Dr. Agu Bryan, announced the result in the presence of committee members and representatives of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Bryan said the exercise was conducted in accordance with the party’s guidelines and electoral procedures, adding that Dagogo satisfied all constitutional requirements to emerge as the party’s candidate.

Reacting to his victory, Dagogo expressed appreciation to party members for what he described as the confidence reposed in him.

“I am deeply honoured to have emerged from among several distinguished aspirants who equally sought the party’s ticket. This victory is not mine alone; it belongs to every member of our great party and every Rivers citizen who believes in a better future for our state,” he said.

He called for unity among party members and residents of the state, stressing that the focus should be on rebuilding Rivers State and improving governance.

“The task before us is greater than any individual ambition. It is about building a functional, secure and economically viable Rivers State that works for everyone,” he stated.

Dagogo said his campaign would focus on issues affecting residents, including security, education, youth empowerment, job creation, healthcare delivery and economic development.

He also pledged to pursue an issue-based campaign devoid of personal attacks and divisive politics.

“We will present clear policies and actionable plans aimed at restoring the pride and dignity of Rivers State,” he added.

Dagogo further said his administration would build on the achievements of past leaders, from former military governor Alfred Diete-Spiff to incumbent Governor Siminalayi Fubara, while addressing areas requiring improvement and prioritising people-centred development.
