The Power Equipment and Electrical Machinery Development Institute (PEEMADI) has pledged technical and human capacity support for the ongoing electricity market reform in Kogi State, as stakeholders intensify efforts to build a more efficient and investor-friendly power sector.

The Acting Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of PEEMADI, Engr. (Dr.) Abdulsalam El-Suleiman, made the commitment during a visit by the management team of the Kogi State Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC) to the institute’s headquarters in Okene.

El-Suleiman said PEEMADI was ready to collaborate with the state government and KERC in strengthening engineering capacity, technical research, equipment development and innovation in the electricity value chain.

He stressed that no institution can achieve meaningful transformation in isolation, noting that collaboration remains key to delivering sustainable reforms in the power sector.

According to him, the ongoing transition toward smart energy systems, renewable energy integration and digitalised electricity networks makes strategic partnerships essential for improved service delivery.

He added that Nigeria’s power sector continues to face challenges such as infrastructure deficits, technical losses, metering gaps, revenue protection issues and manpower shortages, all of which require locally driven technological solutions.

“No institution can achieve transformational impact in isolation,” he said, reaffirming PEEMADI’s commitment to supporting a viable and technology-driven electricity market in Kogi State.

El-Suleiman also commended KERC for prioritising partnerships aimed at deepening reforms and improving electricity supply across the state.

Speaking on behalf of the KERC Chairman/CEO, Engr. Ibrahim Sunday Abdwaaris, the Commission’s General Manager for Market Competition and Rate, Alhaji Suleiman Isa, said the visit was part of efforts to strengthen collaboration with key stakeholders in the power sector.

He said the engagement focused on areas such as metering, transformer maintenance, and electrical equipment repairs, adding that the delegation also inspected PEEMADI’s facilities to assess technical standards.

Isa reaffirmed KERC’s commitment to building local capacity as part of its mandate to ensure reliable and affordable electricity supply in Kogi State.

Other members of the delegation included senior officials from engineering, monitoring and strategy departments of the Commission.
