Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has emerged winner of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential primary election conducted across wards in Abia State.

Atiku polled 25,153 votes to defeat his closest rival, Rotimi Amaechi, who secured 18,339 votes in the exercise.

Businessman and presidential aspirant, Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, came third with 3,264 votes.

The result was announced on Monday by the Returning Officer, Onyebuchi Chukwu, following the collation of votes from various wards across the state.

Reacting to the outcome of the exercise, the Abia State Publicity Secretary of the ADC, Francess Olisa Ogbonnaya, commended party members for their massive turnout and peaceful conduct during the primary election.
