Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has called on residents of Abuja to channel the spiritual lessons of Eid-el-Kabir into stronger civic responsibility, urging that sacrifice, obedience and selflessness should guide efforts to build a world-class capital city.
In his Eid-el-Kabir message on Wednesday, Wike said the celebration is more than a public holiday, describing it as a reminder of Prophet Ibrahim’s (AS) unwavering faith and willingness to place the common good above personal interest.
“It is a profound reminder of Prophet Ibrahim’s (AS) unwavering faith and willingness to place the common good above personal desire,” he said.
The minister stressed that modern obedience must translate into discipline in daily civic life, calling on residents to keep their environment clean, obey traffic and building regulations, pay taxes promptly, and cooperate with security agencies.
“If Eid-el-Kabir teaches sacrifice for a greater purpose, then the FCT symbolizes what sacrifice can build: a place of peace, order, and shared prosperity,” he added.
Wike described Abuja as a miniature Nigeria that reflects unity across tribes, tongues and religions, reaffirming the FCT Administration’s commitment to infrastructural development across both the city centre and satellite communities.
He disclosed that several large-scale and inclusive infrastructure projects are nearing completion and will be commissioned in the coming weeks, noting that they align with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda aimed at transforming Abuja into a global-standard capital.
The minister commended residents for their patience during ongoing construction works and urged continued cooperation as government expands development across the territory.
To ensure a peaceful celebration, Wike said security agencies have been fully mobilised, while urging residents to celebrate responsibly, remain vigilant and respect law and order.
He also called for unity, religious harmony and compassion for the less privileged, warning against divisive rhetoric and misinformation within communities.
“None of you truly believes until he loves for his brother what he loves for himself,” he quoted Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
Wike noted that this year’s Eid-el-Kabir coincides with Children’s Day, describing it as a unique opportunity to instil values of sacrifice, discipline, honesty and patriotism in young Nigerians.
“A city that secures its children secures its future,” he said.
He further commended FCT pilgrims who returned from Hajj, urging them to continue praying for peace, unity and prosperity in Nigeria.
On behalf of the FCTA, the minister wished all residents a peaceful, joyful and spiritually fulfilling Eid-el-Kabir celebration, praying that Allah accepts their sacrifices and blesses the Federal Capital Territory and the nation at large.
