Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State yesterday joined hundreds of Muslims at Eid-el-Kabir prayers in Damaturu, the state capital.

The two Raka’at Eid prayer was led by the Chief Imam of Yobe Mosque and Islamic Centre, Ustaz Hudu Muhammad Yusuf.

The governor, who was represented by his deputy, Alhaji Idi Barde Gubana, explained that the essence of Eid-el-Adha is to commemorate and emulate the sacrifice, obedience, devotion and submission demonstrated by Prophet Ibrahim (AS), who was willing to sacrifice his son, Isma’il (AS), in obedience to Allah’s command. In His Mercy, Allah provided a ram as a substitute.

He appealed to the public to intensify prayers for continued peace, prosperity and development, especially during the Sallah celebration.

The governor called on people of the state to continue praying for the peace, stability and economic development of the state and the country in general.

Delivering his sermon shortly after the Eid prayer, the chief Imam of Yobe Mosque, Sheikh Hudu Muhammad Yusuf, reminded the congregation that Eid al-Kabir is a great day in the Islamic calendar.

He encouraged Muslims to imbibe the culture of exchanging visits during the festive period, especially among family members, friends, neighbours and relatives, noting that such acts strengthen brotherhood and unity within society.
