Young MC has become the latest performer to withdraw from the lineup of the Great American State Fair, the large-scale event organised to commemorate America’s 250th anniversary.

The ‘Bust a Move’ rapper had originally been announced alongside performers including Martina McBride, Flo Rida, C+C Music Factory, Vanilla Ice, Milli Vanilli, and The Commodores.

The 16-day event is scheduled to begin on June 25 and conclude on July 10, featuring musical performances every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night.

In a statement shared on social media, Young MC explained his decision to withdraw from the event.

“I HAVE INFORMED MY AGENTS THAT I WILL NOT BE PERFORMING AT THE FREEDOM 250 EVENT,” he wrote. “The artistes were never told about any political involvement with the event. And despite the organisers’ claims that the event is non-partisan, SPIN magazine describes it as Trump-backed. I hope to perform in D.C. in the near future at an event that is not so politically charged.”

Meanwhile, the event’s organisers continue to emphasise that the celebration is intended to be inclusive and non-partisan. According to a description on the Freedom 250 website, the event aims to “unite and showcase all 56 U.S. states and territories in a single World’s Fair-scale event.”

The organisers also describe it as an opportunity for visitors from across the United States to celebrate the people, cultures, and traditions that define the nation.
