Steve Clarke has put an end to speculation over his future by signing a new four-year contract to remain as Scotland’s head coach — a deal that runs through to 2030.

The 62-year-old’s position had been uncertain following Scotland’s back-to-back European Championship qualifications, but he has now cemented his legacy after leading the nation to their first men’s World Cup since 1998.

With just over two weeks until Scotland open their tournament campaign against Haiti in Boston, Clarke has extended his stay well beyond this summer’s finals.

“It’s a true honour to lead this squad into our first men’s World Cup in 28 years, and I’m proud to continue as head coach,” Clarke said.

He added: “I know Scotland’s supporters appreciate what this group has achieved with consecutive Euros qualifications, and I’m sure the whole country celebrated our long-awaited qualification for World Cup 2026.

“Looking ahead and planning for the future is vital. While my squad will give everything to compete and make the nation proud in the United States this summer, this new deal gives us certainty. We can now build on these foundations for the long term, and it’s a privilege to carry on in this role.”
