The Niger State government under Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago has constructed over 1000 kilometres of intra and inter city road networks and upgraded the state-owned IBB Specialist Hospital to begin kidney transplant and spinal surgery using laser methods.
These were major highlights of the achievements of the government given by commissioners at a news conference coordinated by the commissioners for information, Obed Nuhu Nana, to mark the third anniversary of Governor Bago’s administration in the state held in Minna yesterday.
The commissioner for works, Jabiru Abbas, represented by the permanent secretary, Hassan Etsu, said the state had been opened up by the many roads constructed by the government.
He said 40 percent of the roads were completed and ready for commissioning while efforts were in top gear to ensure that the ongoing projects were completed within the stipulated durations.
He said among the roads were local government and state joint roads of 5km each in the 25 local government areas of the state aimed at opening up the areas and link cities.
Similarly, the commissioner for health, Dr Murtala Muhammad Bagana, said the IBB Specialist Hospital had been upgraded to perform kidney transplant and spinal cord surgery.
He said 20 consultants were at present in the service of the hospital while general hospital services were upgraded and 22 primary health centres were upgraded with all the complementary services.
The commissioner for basic and secondary education, Dr Hadiza Asabe Mohammed, said the feeding of boarding school students had improved while facilities in schools had been upgraded.
The commissioner for information, in his remarks, noted that the administration had achieved a lot within three years and decided to showcase them through a robust engagement with the media.
