The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has called on the federal and state governments to intensify efforts to address insecurity and implement policies that improve the living conditions of Nigerians amid worsening economic challenges across the country.

The national chairman, Senator David Mark, made the call while delivering his address at the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the party in Abuja yesterday.

Mark said Nigeria was passing through a difficult period marked by insecurity, economic hardship, unemployment and declining purchasing power, urging governments at all levels to take urgent and sincere steps to alleviate the suffering of citizens.

“Insecurity continues to threaten lives and livelihoods across many parts of our country. Communities are displaced, farmers are unable to cultivate their lands freely, businesses struggle under difficult economic conditions, and millions of families face hardship and uncertainty,” he said.

He added that the growing economic burden on ordinary Nigerians required immediate attention from those entrusted with governance.

“As a responsible opposition party, the ADC does not celebrate the difficulties confronting our nation, nor do we seek political advantage from the pain of our people. Rather, we stand firmly in support of every sincere effort aimed at restoring peace, security, economic stability and national cohesion,” Mark stated.

“We therefore urge governments at all levels to intensify efforts toward tackling insecurity decisively and implementing policies that make life more meaningful for Nigerians.”

The former senate president said the NEC meeting was convened not only to assess national issues but also to strengthen the party’s internal democratic processes ahead of future elections.

According to him, the ADC remains committed to building a political platform anchored on integrity, competence, justice and service to the people.

“The ADC must remain a home for all Nigerians who seek credible leadership and genuine democratic alternatives,” he said.

Mark stressed the need for party unity as preparations for the 2027 general elections gather momentum, warning against actions capable of weakening the party’s collective resolve.

“Our strength lies not in division but in unity. We must resist every tendency capable of weakening our collective resolve. Personal ambition must never supersede party interest,” he said.

He urged members to resolve internal disagreements through dialogue and established party mechanisms, noting that strong political parties are built on enduring values and institutions rather than individual personalities.

The ADC chairman also acknowledged complaints and petitions arising from the party’s primaries in several states and constituencies, assuring members that the National Working Committee (NWC) would carefully review recommendations submitted by various appeal committees.

“I wish to assure all members that the National Working Committee will critically review the recommendations submitted by the various appeal committees and take informed, fair and responsible decisions in the overall interest of justice, equity and party unity,” he said.

Mark maintained that the party’s objective was to field credible candidates capable of winning elections and effectively serving the Nigerian people.

“Our goal is not merely to produce flagbearers, but to field candidates capable of securing victory and advancing the vision of our great party,” he added.

He called on party leaders and members nationwide to close ranks, expand the party’s membership base, strengthen grassroots structures and continue to offer practical solutions to the country’s challenges.

“Nigerians are watching us. Many citizens are increasingly searching for a credible political platform. The ADC must not fail them,” Mark said.

He urged members of the NEC to place the future of the party and the interest of Nigeria above personal considerations, expressing confidence that the ADC could contribute meaningfully to the emergence of a more peaceful, prosperous and democratic nation.
