As part of activities marking the seventh anniversary of the administration of Governor Mai Mala Buni, the Acting Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr Mohammed Goje has paid an inspection tour of major urban renewal, legacy and ongoing development projects in Damaturu, reaffirming the administration’s commitment to sustainable development and improved service delivery across Yobe State.

The inspection tour covered a number of strategic projects that have become key symbols of the administration’s urban transformation agenda, including the Damaturu Flyover, the Damaturu Interchange Bridge, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development Office Complex under construction, the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) Reform House, and the Mamman B. Ali Maternal and Child Health Centre.

Speaking during the visits, Dr Goje said the projects represent the administration’s deliberate efforts to modernise the state capital, strengthen public institutions and improve the quality of life of citizens through strategic investments in infrastructure and social services.

He noted that Governor Buni’s administration has, over the past seven years, maintained a clear focus on executing people-oriented projects capable of addressing developmental challenges while creating opportunities for economic growth and long-term prosperity.

According to him, the ongoing urban renewal initiatives, particularly the flyover and interchange bridge projects, are designed to ease traffic congestion, enhance road safety and improve the aesthetic outlook of Damaturu as a fast-growing state capital.

“The projects were carefully conceptualised to deliver measurable benefits to the people in line with the administration’s vision of responsive governance and sustainable development.”

The Acting SSG was accompanied on the inspection by the Commissioner for Information, Hon. Abdullahi Bego; Commissioner for Works, Engr. Umaru Wakili; Commissioner for Transport and Energy, Hon. Mohammed Mohammed Bara; Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hajiya Ya’Jalo Badama; Director-General of the Bureau of Public Procurement, Alhaji Samaila Adamu; and other senior government officials.

At the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development Office Complex and the BPP Reform House, project managers briefed the delegation on the progress of work, explaining that the facilities would provide a conducive working environment for civil servants, enhance institutional efficiency and support effective public service delivery.

At the BPP Reform House, the Director-General of the Bureau of Public Procurement, Alhaji Sama’ila Adamu said the facility is designed to accommodate five government agencies under one roof, thereby promoting operational synergy, reducing administrative costs and improving service coordination.

The inspection team also visited the Mamman B. Ali Maternal and Child Health Centre, where the Chief Medical Director of the Yobe State Teaching Hospital, Dr Babagana Waru, alongside the Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr Mohammed Lawan Gana, highlighted the facility’s achievements in maternal and child healthcare since its establishment.

They noted that the centre has continued to complement the state government’s efforts to improve access to quality healthcare services, particularly for women and children.

As part of the anniversary activities, Dr Goje also addressed journalists at a press briefing, where he presented a comprehensive overview of the achievements recorded by the Buni administration over the last seven years highlighting the significant milestones in infrastructure development, healthcare, education, agriculture, security, housing, urban renewal, youth empowerment and economic development.
