A former senator for Adamawa North, Elisha Abbo, has emerged as the Labour Party’s governorship candidate for Adamawa State ahead of the 2027 general elections, following clearance by the party’s national leadership.

Abbo’s nomination was confirmed after a screening exercise at the Labour Party national headquarters in Abuja, where he was subsequently endorsed as the party’s consensus flag bearer.

Party sources said the development came less than a week after the former senator underwent screening, marking the conclusion of the selection process for the governorship ticket in the state.

With the ticket secured, Abbo is expected to face the candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress, Ahmed Galadima, as well as Aishatu Dahiru Binani of the Nigeria Democratic Congress in what is shaping up to be a competitive governorship race.

Abbo, according to party insiders, reaffirmed his commitment to a campaign centred on governance reforms, economic recovery, youth empowerment, and infrastructure development across Adamawa State.

He also emphasized the need for inclusive governance, with priorities including job creation, education, healthcare delivery, and improved security across communities in the state.

Political observers say Abbo’s emergence adds a notable dimension to the early political alignments in Adamawa, given his previous tenure in the Senate and established political base within the state.

His candidacy is expected to trigger intensified consultations and grassroots mobilisation across Adamawa’s 21 local government areas as political parties position themselves ahead of the 2027 elections.

The development adds to a growing list of early governorship alignments nationwide as parties continue to consolidate structures and attract high-profile figures ahead of the next electoral cycle.
