French centre-back Ibrahima Konate will officially bring his Liverpool career to an end this summer after contract renewal talks collapsed, the club has announced.
The 26-year-old, who arrived from RB Leipzig in 2021, failed to reach terms on an extension and will now depart Anfield when his current deal expires at the end of June, concluding a five-year stint on Merseyside.
Liverpool confirmed the news via a club statement on their official website: “Ibrahima Konate will leave the club following the expiration of his contract this summer. The defender’s time at Anfield will come to a close at the end of June, marking the end of a five-year spell with the Reds.”
During his time at Liverpool, Konate made 183 appearances across all competitions, scoring seven goals.
His trophy haul includes the Premier League title from the 2024-25 campaign, the FA Cup, two Carabao Cups, and the FA Community Shield.
In a heartfelt farewell addressed to the fans, Konate expressed his regret at not being able to properly bid goodbye on the pitch at Anfield.
“I arrived five years ago as a young player carrying big dreams. Today, I leave with a lifetime of memories,” he wrote. “Wearing this shirt has been a privilege. We’ve experienced incredible highs, difficult lows, trophies, battles, friendships for life, and heartbreaking losses — none more painful than saying goodbye to our brother Diogo.”
The France international also opened up about personal grief, adding: “Losing my father this year was one of the hardest periods I’ve ever faced. But through it all, my commitment to this club never wavered. In my darkest moments, I gave everything for this badge.”
He thanked teammates, coaches, staff, and especially the supporters: “Your love, your energy, your unwavering support — Anfield is a magical place, and I never took a single moment in front of you for granted. I’m deeply saddened I didn’t get the chance to say a proper goodbye at the last match. I didn’t know then that it would be my final time in this kit before you.”
Konate signed off with an emotional promise: “This is not an easy farewell, but it’s time for a fresh challenge and a new page. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I love you all, and I will carry Liverpool with me wherever I go. See you again soon, inshallah.”
