The leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Adamawa State Chapter, has denied endorsing any governorship candidate ahead of the 2027 general elections in the State.

The state chairman of CAN, Rev. Joel Manzo, said neither the association nor any of its recognised organs authorised such a representation or pronouncement.

Manzo said, “Indeed, that all aspirants seeking leadership positions in the state are our sons and daughters.”

He stated that it is inappropriate for any individual or group, regardless of status or position, to make declarations or endorsements on behalf of CAN without the consent and approval of the duly constituted leadership of the Association,” he stated.

According to him, such actions have the potential to create misunderstanding, sow seeds of division among believers, and undermine the unity for which the Church stands.

He said, furthermore, that while organisations and groups affiliated with the Christian community are free to hold personal opinions and political preferences, no group or individual has the mandate to speak or make declarations on behalf of the Women Wing, Youth Wing, or the Christian or CAN Adamawa without authorisation from the State leadership.

We therefore categorically dissociate CAN from the statements and endorsements made during the said visit.

In the interest of clarity and public accountability, we call upon the organisation concerned to issue a public statement through the same channels used in disseminating the earlier declaration, clarifying that their position was solely their own and not that of CAN Adamawa State Chapter or its recognised organs across the twenty-one Local Government Areas of the State.

“An Adamawa State Chapter bears no ill feelings toward any political aspirant the cleric added.
