Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has thrown his support behind Arsenal, insisting their painful Champions League final loss shouldn’t overshadow a historic season.
The Gunners suffered more European heartbreak in Budapest, falling to Paris Saint-Germain in a tense penalty shootout. Kai Havertz had given Arsenal an early lead in the sixth minute, but a second-half Ousmane Dembélé penalty leveled the score, and PSG ultimately prevailed 4-3 from the spot.
The victory marked PSG’s second straight Champions League title, cementing their place as France’s most successful club in the competition’s history.
But Ferdinand, speaking to Arsenal News Channel, urged Mikel Arteta’s side to keep perspective after a remarkable campaign.
“You have to step back and see the full picture,” Ferdinand said. “Of course it stings. Losing on penalties is brutal, no getting around that. But here’s the thing – you just won the Premier League. After 22 years, you’ve finally broken that drought. That’s an incredible achievement.
“This is a fresh chapter for a fresh team. They’re writing their own legacy at this club. For the next three years at least, this group will be competing for the biggest trophies out there. So yes, this hurts – but go back to London, lift that Premier League trophy, and celebrate with your fans.”
