Stop Obsessing Over Money’, Nevin Warns Rashford

Former Chelsea winger Pat Nevin has urged Manchester United loanee Marcus Rashford to rethink his financial priorities, suggesting that chasing a massive payday could derail his career.

Speaking about the Barcelona forward’s shrinking list of potential suitors, Nevin pointed out that Rashford’s hefty wage demands are pricing him out of most moves.

Nevin, while appearing on Grosvenor Casinos, argued that if he were advising the England international, he would tell him to lower his salary expectations and work out a return to Old Trafford.

“I’d say: stop fixating on money and sort out a deal to stay at Manchester United – that’s where you truly fit,” Nevin explained. “I’m not sure Barcelona can keep affording what he wants. Real Madrid could, but hardly anyone else can splash out huge sums for a player whose recent record is mixed.”

He added: “Remember, the wages he’s on at United are already enormous. So the number of clubs able to buy him is very small. Chelsea wouldn’t touch him – they target younger players and focus on selling. That leaves Marcus with very few options.”

Nevin concluded with a piece of personal advice: “If he can shut out the agents, sit alone in a dark room, then turn on the light and look at himself in the mirror, he should ask: ‘How do I want to be remembered in 20 or 30 years? As someone who just wanted another zero in the bank account? Or as someone who truly enjoyed his football?’”
