Manchester United have sealed an agreement with Atalanta to sign Brazilian midfielder Ederson, making an early splash in the summer transfer market as they prepare for next season.

According to renowned football journalist David Ornstein, the 26-year-old will join the Old Trafford club for a guaranteed €40.5 million ($47m; £35m), plus an additional €4.5 million ($5m; £4m) in performance-related bonuses.

Personal terms have already been settled on a contract running until June 2030, with the option to extend by a further year. Ederson is still required to pass a medical examination, with all parties aiming to finalise the move in early July.

The Brazilian has attracted interest from several elite clubs, but he made United his priority. With his contract at Atalanta set to expire in the summer of 2027, the Premier League side managed to negotiate a fee well below what had been quoted in earlier transfer windows.

The acquisition signals a decisive start to the window for United, who needed to reinforce their midfield following Casemiro’s departure.

Further additions in that position are expected, especially with more exits possible and Michael Carrick’s team having secured Champions League qualification for the 2026–27 season.
