The AVM Terry Omatsola Okorodudu (rtd.) Foundation, in partnership with Yonwuren Media, has awarded scholarships to students in tertiary institutions across Nigeria as part of efforts to expand access to higher education and preserve the legacy of the late senior military officer.
The foundation also announced the commencement of broader programmes and outreach initiatives focused on education, welfare, human capital development and socio-economic empowerment.
Speaking on the initiative, head of operations and programmes of the foundation, Comrade Kingsley Omadoye, said the scholarship scheme was designed to uphold the values of service, excellence and leadership associated with the late Air Vice Marshal Terry Okorodudu.
He said the foundation’s mission is to create opportunities for young Nigerians through education and community-based interventions aimed at long-term impact.
“The foundation is committed to transforming lives through education, empowerment and community development. Our goal is to create opportunities, restore hope and provide sustainable support for those who need it most,” he said.
The scholarship programme targets students pursuing professional and degree courses, including medicine and surgery, engineering and law.
The first beneficiaries of the scheme include Edemadiden Prince Toju, Abubakar Hashimu Bashir, Orevaoghene Orieka, and Oforodo Chisom Harmony.
The initiative is supported by the widow of the late military officer, Mrs Joan Okorodudu, and his son, Steven Bidemi Okorodudu, who reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining his legacy through educational and humanitarian interventions.
The foundation also called on traditional rulers, religious leaders, civil society organisations, corporate institutions and development partners to support its programmes through collaboration and strategic partnerships.
It pledged to continue investing in education by providing scholarship opportunities to deserving students across the country, irrespective of gender, ethnicity or socio-economic background.
Meanwhile, Yonwuren Media paid tribute to the late AVM Okorodudu, describing him as a distinguished military officer whose career was marked by professionalism, patriotism and dedication to national development.
Born on August 27, 1955, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, the late Okorodudu began his military career at the Nigerian Defence Academy in 1975 as an Air Force pilot cadet. He later trained at the Nigerian Air Force Primary Flying Wing in Kaduna and served as an operational pilot on the Dornier 28-D-2 and G-222 aircraft.
The foundation said his legacy of service, discipline and commitment to national development would continue to inspire future generations through its educational and empowerment programmes.
