The global market for OLED displays used in notebook computers is projected to reach $11.5 billion by 2033 as manufacturers increasingly adopt premium display technologies to meet growing consumer demand for thinner, lighter and more energy-efficient devices.

According to new industry forecasts by Omdia, the market research and advisory firm, said the shift from traditional LCD screens to Organic Light Emitting Diode (OLED) technology is expected to accelerate over the next decade, driven by advances in display performance, battery efficiency and the growing adoption of artificial intelligence-enabled personal computers.

Industry analysts noted that OLED displays are becoming a key differentiator in the notebook market because they offer deeper contrast ratios, improved colour accuracy, faster response times and lower power consumption compared to conventional LCD panels. These features are increasingly attracting premium laptop manufacturers seeking to enhance user experience in gaming, content creation and enterprise computing.

According to Omdia, notebook displays are emerging as one of the fastest-growing segments within the broader OLED ecosystem, alongside tablets and monitors. The firm had previously forecast that OLED demand in mobile PCs would grow at a compound annual growth rate of about 34 per cent as leading technology brands expand OLED adoption across their product portfolios.

The report highlights that major display manufacturers are investing heavily in new production capacity to support the expected surge in demand. Suppliers are ramping up next-generation manufacturing lines capable of producing larger OLED panels for laptops and other computing devices, reflecting confidence in the long-term growth outlook of the sector.

Market momentum is also being supported by the introduction of tandem OLED technology which delivers higher brightness levels and longer display lifespan. Omdia estimates that tandem OLED panels will account for a growing share of the notebook and tablet display market as manufacturers target premium consumers willing to pay for improved visual performance.

Analysts said the increasing integration of AI capabilities into personal computers is expected to further boost demand for premium notebooks equipped with advanced displays, creating new opportunities for panel makers and component suppliers across the global technology value chain.

The forecast underscores the broader transformation taking place in the display industry as OLED technology expands beyond smartphones and televisions into mainstream computing devices. While, Industry observers alluded that the trend could reshape competition among laptop manufacturers over the coming decade, particularly as consumers place greater emphasis on display quality, power efficiency and AI-enabled computing experiences.
